Basic Training
This training page is written using FS2004 as a base. Flight videos are made in FS2004 and will not work with other versions. If you have any queries regarding rotary flight, then contact the Chief Pilot.
See below for training exercise.
When setting the aircraft realism settings, start with all the sliders set approx half way. As you gain experience, you can increase each slider to gauge it's effect. A setting I find quite realistic is with the sliders all at about 90%, but is very often personal taste.
Taxi and Lift off
|
This video is based around the default Blackpool
Airport, and has been made in FS2004. It uses the Scweizer S300 by Jordan
Moore. When lifting off initially, be ready to control the aircraft in yaw. Make sure this is controlled before actually leaving the ground. Get a "feel" for the way the aircraft handles as you increase power, and use only SMALL control movements. If you feel yourself losing control, put her back on the ground and try again. Keep the taxi speed down (the ASI should hardly be registering), and try to keep her about 15' off the ground. NOTE - control your speed using small movements of the Cyclc, not the collective. Watch the video, and practice, practice, practice !

The following exercise will be sufficient to provide the skills you will need to carry out offshore landings.....
|
At Blackpool, start at the grass "H" by the tower. Hover- taxi the aircraft to the active runway. Lift into the hover, hold for a few seconds, then transition into forward flight. Climb to 1000' and carry out a full circuit. When returning, make your approach back towards the grass "H", not the runway. Gradually decrease your approach speed, so that the ASI reads zero, but you are still moving forwards. Maintain this speed until touchdown. This manouver is demonstrated in the video above |
