Faroe Islands Offshore Contract

(FS9 Only)

OVERVIEW

The Faroe Islands are situated approx 200  NM North West of the Scottish mainland. It's principal airport is VAGAR.

On the 1st of March 2003, Vertigo bid for a contract to supply helicopters in support of a new oil and gas field throughout it's development. Initial flights begin on the 20th May 2003 when the Vertigo Management fly to Vagar to inspect and open the Vertigo forward operating base. Construction of this facility is already underway, and on schedule.

The contract is expected to run for five years initially, with a three year extension likely. Missions will be varied, requiring at least three types of aircraft, in the medium and heavy weight classes, due to the ranges involved. 

This lucrative contract will be presented in the following stages:

EXPLORATION

Stage 1  (Vagar Base opening, and crew positioning flights)

Stage 2 (Survey vessel support, Field assessment)

DRILLING

(Support of mobile drilling platforms, widening of Survey area.)

CONSTRUCTION

Stage 1 (Production platform, and satellite module construction, addition of scheduled crew positioning flights from Scottish mainland)

Stage 2 (Main platform positioning and construction, satellite positioning and construction)

PRODUCTION

Aircraft fleet standardisation, flight schedule construction, SAR support. Adhoc flights as required.

SCENERY

The scenery for this project will consist of a number of custom made offshore platforms, ships, and the Vertigo forward operating base in Vagar. The platforms and ships are being constructed as the project progresses and will determine when each stage is uploaded.

It is strongly recommended that you download the Vagar scenery file faroe2002.zip from www.fsnordic.net This file enhances the terrain around the Faroe Islands, and add some extra detail to Vagar Airport. It is this scenery file that the Vertigo base will be designed for, though it should work with the default scenery.

The scenery for each stage will be uploaded to the AWG Downloads page when completed.

FLEET

Initially one AS 365N2 Dauphin will be used to support the Exploration Stages. As the project progresses, and increased range/capacity are required, the fleet will be modified to cope. Expect short notice changes of type, with leasing a possibility in the initial stages before the final fleet is rationalised.

FINALLY

Go to the main contract menu, and check for each Stage as it appears. Any Scenery, ad hoc flights, or potential quick reaction flights (medivacs etc) will be notified on each stage's page. 

This will be a challenge both for the pilots and Management, but will confirm Vertigo as the most innovative rotary operation in the Virtual World.   Enjoy!
