Advanced Rotary Training

By now you will be a master of the Flight Sim Helicopter, so this page is provided to take you a little further.

These instructions are based on Flight Sim 2004 only.

SO...lets get started.

_______

Navigation Exercise

A short navigation exercise from our Training base at Blackpool, to Liverpool Airport (EGGP) has been produced for you.  Have a look at the map below...

Right click on the map & save to your PC for a clearer view

Blackpool is at the very top center, and Liverpool at the very bottom center. The black line shows the training route between the two, and has a distance and bearing noted alongside each one. Along the way you will set down on the Lennox platform, then route down to the VOR "WAL", and then to Liverpool airport. It depends on which direction the wind is blowing as to which runway you will land on, so be prepared by checking the weather at Liverpool before you leave Blackpool !

You will find a small training scenery on the main AWG Downloads page (avancedtrng.zip). This will place a training platform at the position the real Lennox is. However, if you go to http://www.fs-odg.com you will find the entire Morecambe and Liverpool Bay platform sceneries there for free download.

If you wish to improve the Liverpool scenery, then you can find a number of scenery packages at www.flightsim.com or www.avsim.com for free download.

Right click on the route & save to your PC for a clearer view

Here's the plan - note that the enroute height is 2000 ft - you won't reach that on the leg to Lennox as it's too close - aim for about 1500 ft.

Something to note on your way around...the point of land just to the West of WAL VOR is a danger area - so make sure you stay on track when routing towards the VOR!

This excercise should be flown twice - manually at first, and the second time using the autopilot fitted to the aircraft. If you have FS Navigator, the AP will couple to your flight plan without problems.

Well, what are you waiting for ? GO FLY !!
