Alenia
(Italy) and Aerospatiale (France) combined in the early 1980's to
design the ATR42. Following on from the success of the original ATR42, the extra 4 1/2 metres of stretched fuselage give the ATR72 room to
accommodate as many as 74 passengers. The high wing designs allows for the interior
fuselage space to be maximised to the benefit of passengers and
airlines alike. Baggage storage is provided between the flight
deck and passenger cabin while the galley, toilet and attendants
facilities are located at the rear of the aircraft.
The flexible and forward thinking design of the ATR have allowed its basic design to be developed with fuselage "stretches" and more powerful engines. Enhancements to cabin design and use of advanced composite materials have helped to reduce noise and increase performance on the 72 series.. |
